CDW Lead UX Developer in Vernon Hills, Illinois
The Lead User Experience (UX) Developer builds compelling and intuitive user experiences; is motivated to understand customer and stakeholder needs, and can produce clean, modern, efficient and inspiring application interfaces. This role works on project teams with business stakeholders and developers and is integral in determining what to build to enhance CDW’s client offering while serving as an evangelist for User Interface (UI) design and development through definition of standards and guidelines that ensure consistent, reusable and repeatable application design.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Lead user-centered research with customers through shadowing, focus groups, usage analysis, and rapid prototyping.
Translate research discoveries into creative and usable solutions.
Conduct analysis of existing applications identifying areas where usability needs improvement, needs upgrade to meet standards or requires complete redesign.
Lead definition of user interaction models and screen designs for new and existing product features.
Translate business and customer requirements into interactive experiences – taking big ideas and working collaboratively to evolve them into usable features.
Clearly present UI and UX concepts, including visual design and behaviors with simple working prototypes, wireframes, task/workflows, mockups, paper sketches or whatever method best communicates key ideas.
Communicate scenarios, end-to-end experiences, interaction models, and screen designs to stakeholders and development team.
Bring strong creative, conceptual and problem-solving skills to translate conceptual ideas (business needs and user goals) into interaction and design solutions.
Lead / develop the definition of UX standards and guidelines for future development efforts.
Collaborate with development teams on design and development integration.
Create, maintain and share project documentation and UX guidelines after project execution.
Participate in regular design reviews and other team-wide design efforts.
Lead the User Experience UX discipline in technical architecture discussions/decisions.
Interact with software developers and stakeholders to strike the balance between user-centered design, and timely and efficient delivery of workable product.
Discern and describe key internal and external personas.
Work on an agile team to develop software prototypes and solutions.
Act as the user-advocate during the development process, subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review, and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centered perspective.
Act as “go-to” resource with in-depth knowledge of User Interface best practices and standards.
Articulate how the design solution addresses user needs and business goals, and adheres to technical constraints.
Recommend appropriate tools and technologies in conformance with CDW standards and suitability to task.
Create high fidelity prototypes to convey user interaction and support usability testing.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, interaction design or equivalent experience
10 years of application development experience
10 years of User Experience (UX) design and User Interface (UI) development
Other Required Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and lead UX developers
Demonstrated ability to communicate abstract visual ideas to others
Proficient in Windows operating systems and User Interface standards
Proven record in leading creation of User Interface style definition and standardization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to all stakeholders including senior leadership while explaining why a design will or will not work
Strong organizational, planning and creative problem solving skills with critical attention to detail
History of balancing competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines
Professional demeanor, with an aptitude for team collaboration, user empathy and a high tolerance for ambiguity
Strong knowledge of user experience best practices
Expertise with XAML and ability to leverage existing styles and designs as well as develop new and extensible controls that are reusable in CDW’s WPF applications
Expertise in creating User Interfaces using technologies such as XAML, WPF, .NET, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, XML, Java and other rich platforms
Proficient in analyzing and unifying UX and UI efforts across new and legacy features and applications
High-level understanding of common software development practices and exposure to Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
Curiosity to keep learning new technologies and methods, and a desire to build great products.
Basic understanding of software design patterns including MVVM, MVC and MVP
Experience with development tools such as Visual Studio and TFS
Experience with user interface modeling tools such as Balsamiq and Axure
Experience with graphics applications such as Photoshop, Visio, PowerPoint
